Results
All Biopsy and Skin Lesion Removal samples are sent to a specialist pathologist for examination and reporting.
Shade Skin Cancer Medicine has partnered with Perth’s leading pathology company and Dermatopathologists to ensure state of the art reporting and testing.
Please allow up to two weeks for your results to be available. Rarely, some specimens need additional testing and can take up to four weeks for results to be available.

● Your doctor wishes to discuss a result with you in a non-urgent manner.
● This does not necessarily mean the result has returned with skin cancer, it may be a pre-cancerous result that may benefit from treatment, or the test result has returned and the doctor has deemed discussion on further treatment is necessary.
● Different types of skin cancers have different treatment options, and your doctor would like to discuss these with you.
● These results will be discussed at a Results Review consultation, where you can ask your doctor for a copy of your result.
● We are unable to forward an abnormal result to you prior to your consultation.

● All samples are sent to an external specialist pathologist laboratory for histopathological evaluation.
● Some samples require extended processing for additional diagnostic accuracy.
● Some samples can rarely take up to 3-4 weeks after additional testing.

● The appointment is generally to discuss the result and treatment options.
● Treatment not requiring any suturing may be performed at the same appointment at your doctor’s discretion.

● Your test result was reported as not being cancerous after pathological examination.
● Unfortunately no test has 100% accuracy - if you have ongoing concerns or note changes in your skin lesions please return for review.

● Most of the time a physical visit will be required for discussion and any pre-treatment planning required.
● Telehealth is available for rural patients or where physical re-examination is not required.
● Please note no Medicare rebate applies for telehealth consultations performed outside of Australia, or where the patient has been admitted as an inpatient to a hospital.

● Medicolegical and professional standards require that the doctor whom has performed the biopsy or skin lesion removal must discuss the result with the patient directly.
● We are unable to release abnormal results without a Results Review appointment.
● This requirement can be transferred to another doctor with the consent of the receiving doctor. If you wish another doctor to be provided with the result and to take over your care - please discuss this with our team.
